Common questions
- How does Compoundly calculate growth?
Money moves at the end of each period, and the balance compounds at the same cadence you contribute. A monthly plan applies one twelfth of your annual rate each month; a yearly plan applies the full rate once a year. The app says which convention it used underneath every result.
- What does the “Off” option do?
It turns off recurring money. Your starting amount simply compounds on its own, once a year, with nothing added and nothing withdrawn. In Reverse Compounding, “Off” asks a different question: the single amount to invest today to reach your goal.
- What is Reverse Compounding?
It starts from the goal instead of the starting amount. Tell Compoundly what you want and when, and it solves for whichever piece you are missing — how much to add each month or year, the annual return you would need, or the one-time amount to invest today.
- My numbers don’t match another calculator. Why?
Almost always one of two things: timing and compounding frequency. Some calculators add contributions at the start of each period rather than the end, which buys every payment one extra period of growth. Others compound monthly while contributing yearly, or the reverse. Compoundly states its convention on screen so you can line the two up.
- Can I model withdrawals?
Yes. In Compounding Interest, switch the contribution from adding to withdrawing. The balance never goes below zero, and if the money runs out, Compoundly tells you the year it happens.
- Does the app need an internet connection?
No. Compoundly contains no networking code at all. There is no account, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics and no third-party SDKs — it works entirely offline, and the numbers you type never leave your device. See the privacy policy for the details.
- How do I clear my saved numbers?
Tap the gear icon on the home screen, then Saved inputs → Clear saved inputs. Deleting the app removes them too.
- Is any of this financial advice?
No. Compoundly is a calculator. It assumes a constant rate of return, which real investments never have. Treat every projection as arithmetic, not a forecast.
